RE: ONDO ASSEMBLY IN TOTAL SHOWDOWN WITH AKEREDOLU, PROBES SOURCE OF #4.3 BILLION SECRET ACCOUNT AND SPENDING WITHOUT APPROPRIATION.
Attention of the Ondo State House of Assembly has been drawn to an oñline publication by one Femi Salako with the above caption and carrying the end credit of the House Spokesperson, Akogun Olugbenga Omole.
The purported write up would have been set aside with a wave of the hañd but for the underlined añimosity the author inteñded to generate between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
For the umpteenth time, it is worthwhile to restate that the ongoing effort to get to the root of the 4.3 billion naira Ondo State money stashed in a secret account is being done in good faith as elected representatives of the people and not meant to witchhaunt anyone as the tone of the caption portends.
The investigation is being carried out in accordance with the power bestowed upon the House of Assembly by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not targeted at any individual or group hence the caption that the house is set for a showdown with Governor Akeredolu does not arise.
As a matter of fact a statement was issued to the press on the proceeding of the House on Thursday, during which the State Commissioner for Finance and the Accountant General appeared before the House for questioning on lead documents that could help the House to unravel the circumstances surrounding the stashing of the 4.3 billion naira in the secret account.
The investigation is still on as obviously stated in the press release. How this amount to a showdown with Governor Akeredolu in the imagination of Mr Femi Salako is a mystery to the House.
While the Ondo State House of Assembly cherishes the robust relationship between her and esteemed members of the pen profession it behoves the caliber of Mr Femi Salako to know that when you tinker with a press release of this sort the asset and liability of your write up outrightly belongs to you.
It is on this premise that the Ondo State House of Assembly takes exception to the caption by Mr Femi Salako moreso when the writer still retains the signature of the House Spokesperson, Honourable Olugbenga Omole thus creating the impression that the caption was part of the press statement issued by the house.
While the House still cherishes the dignity and virtues of men of the pen profession it is pertinent to state that this kind of lazy journalistic disposition as exhibited by Mr Femi Salako will not be entertained by the House in future.
Signed: Hon. Olugbenga Omole, Spokesperson, Ondo State House of Assembly.
