Ondo poll: the Main six[6] Aspirants in APC Unity Forum
—Hero Magazine

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed that the Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary should hold in Akure, the state capital, on July 20.

Aspirants have since intensified their consultations mobilisation and virtual meetings, ahead of the exercise.

The Unity Forum, a body of aggrieved stalwarts determined to oust Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) by producing a consensus candidate that will slug it out with him, is glued to the drawing board

These major Contenders are Oluyide Adelami , Olusola Oke, Jimi Odimayo, Ife Oyedele , Dapo Adelegan and Olusegun Abraham

The task of choosing a consensus candidate by the leadership and the seven-man Committee of Unity Forum however, resulted in a big face-off. Allegations of corruption and other vices have destabilised the forum, leading to chaos.

However, analysts have x-rayed these aspirants. The major Five have prospects at the shadow poll, based on the premises of experience, prominence, visibility, commitment and other parameters.

Olayide Adelami

Adelami is a 62 year old trained administrator and accomplished public servant. He retired meritoriously a few years ago as Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly. He is an Owo indigene like the incumbent, and even holds a traditional title. Before his expression of interest in the governorship seat, not much was known about his political engagements, but his campaign is gradually building inroads to the nooks and crannies of Ondo State. He is known for philanthropic activities among his people, thereby endearing him to them. He is married to an Igbo woman. Though a deep pocked individual, he is perceived by analysts as a green horn in the politics of Ondo State, as well as perceived as a political neophyte and not yet visible enough. He is also alleged to have been in romance with the Akeredolu camp, making his intention doubtful.

Jimi Odimayo

HIS FURROW INTO POLITICS , to run for Ondo state Governorship position “” came like a fire

Prince Okunjimi John Odimayo was born in Ode – Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State on the 26th August, 1980. He began his educational journey at the Anglican Primary School, Ode – Irele, and from there to Arerin Grammar School, Ode – Irele where he had his senior school certificate. Young Jimi later proceeded to the Yaba College of Technology where he obtained his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accountancy. As if that is not enough, he holds a Masters Degree in Corporate Finance from the University of Liverpool.
An Associate Member of the Institute of Shippers, Odimayo started working as an accounts officer at Arcon Petroleum PLC in 2008 and quickly got promoted to the position of Head of Finance in 2009. In 2010, he became the Chief Finance Officer at Somerset Energy Services and was later absorbed by Bellpoint Energy Limited from 2011 to 2013 as the company’s Head of Trade, Finance and Operations.
Odimayo also served as Head of Commercial Services at Addax and Oryx Group Nigeria between 2013 and 2014. He is currently the Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Arowolo Group, a company with subsidiaries such as Arowolo Oil and Gas Limited, registered to market Petroleum Products across Nigeria, and which comfortably boasts of no fewer than nineteen (19) Retail Outlets; Arowolo Transport and Logistics Limited, a company registered to deliver efficient logistics support across petroleum depots in Nigeria with the objective of servicing Arowolo retail outlets; and Arowolo Agro – Allied Like ited, registered to carry out commercial agriculture with special interest in fishery and oil – palm processing. This particular arm or subsidiary has it’s commercial farm scheme in Lagos. Others on the list of the subsidiaries are Arowolo Resorts Limited, registered to deliver hospitality services across the country; Navaho Petroleum Limited, and Arowolo Royal Foundation which is the corporate social responsibility arm of the group. The foundation is a not – for – profit – making organization through which this entrepreneurial whizkid intervenes in meeting the needs, yearnings and aspirations of the less privileged in the society. In this connection, he (Odimayo) gives schorlaships for education, offers health assistance to the sick, empowers the youths and the aged, including the widows, and what have you.
When a man has been blessed by God and he is ready to share his blessings with his people, he has such a strong feelings for humanity that promotes the spirit of his philanthropic ideals. Odimayo’s resolve to at all times extend hands of fellowship whenever it is needed in his best capacity has continually been a source of blessing to indigenes of Ode-Irele, home and abroad, Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole. No wonder, the attribute Arakunrin saw in him to appoint him as member of the governing council of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology.
And today, he has shown his interest to contest for the governorship position of the state, using the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Olusola Oke (SAN)

Oke’s childhood was spent in the riverine Ilaje area. Impressively, he was a fisherman whose vision propelled his struggle to read Law at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Nigeria. He is an experienced and influential politician in Ondo State and has a portfolio of various political offices. Twice, he has contested for the governorship seat in Ondo State without success, transversing several political parties. He has a modest law practice and enjoys a comfortable lifestyle. He is married to Nkem, a beautiful Igbo woman. His oscillation among different parties has not impressed many members.

Ife Oyedele

Oyedele graduated as an Electrical Engineer from the prestigious University of Lagos in 1982. He is the Executive Director of Engineering and Technical Services at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited. He hails from Okitipupa in the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State. His campaign train moves around the State and he expresses his deep pocket lavishly. Despite his sense of entitlement to the political deposit of his father, analysts are of the view that if the governorship seat is hijacked by the South Senatorial District, it should not go to Ikaleland. Rumours about his intention to resign his current appointment to pursue his aspiration is all over Ondo State like wildfire.

Dapo Adelegan

Dapo’s irretrievable foray into business was never planned. Listening to his impeccable command of English will leave you asking why he never opted to study Law or become a pastor. While a good diction is not all there is to pastoral work or becoming a lawyer, Dapo’s persuasive skill usually drive his audience to action especially if you have ever been under his ‘Life in the 21st century’ lecture series. Till date, Dapo is a diligent Christian, and has a heart for people. Despite bagging a degree in English, Adelegan feels more comfortable with Yoruba worship.

From growing up with his grandmother, losing his father at age 11 to serving with his mother at her modest catering shop in Akure, Adelegan, the philanthropist, reminds you of the maxim that nothing is impossible with God. He constantly encourages young people to believe the same through his mentorship platform, The September Club of Nigeria, for young business owners in Akure, Ondo State. Prince Dapo Adelegan is an Alumnus of Lagos Business School. He has equally undergone executive management trainings in South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States of America, USA. Olusegun Abraham

Abraham is a Canada based Water Engineer, who holds additional doctorate degree in Theology that qualifies him to practice as a pastor. The billionaire businessman, politician and cleric hails from Ikare Akoko area of Ondo State. In the 2016 elections, he trailed Rotimi Akeredolu very closely at the primary that produced the latter as the APC glagbearer. The battle shifted to the tribunal. He was rumoured to have enjoyed the support of the party leader in 2016. Abraham is married to a beautiful Ekiti woman.

While political analysts keep watchful eyes on unfolding events, the people of Ondo State are also caught in the frenzy

  1. Brilliant propective aspirant. But I will submit to this that is time to allow youth under FIFTY to pado the trian . Brain drain is alarming in youth presently JIMI is capable

  2. Going through the 5 consensus candidates I will prefer Jimi odimayo, he’s young, he loves his people by helping them.
Imagine such a person emerges as a governor he will do more to benefit the youth and the old.
Going through his profile you already know that he’s conservatives, such people has interest in his people and if given the chance to be a governor everyone will benefits from him.
Unlike the rest including the incubent governor who are married to the igbos their interest will be diverted towards his people.

We want someone who will think Yorubaland first.
We want Someone who will make Yorubaland great again.
We want someone who will create jobs only for the Yoruba citizens not like the incubent governor who gave job to a Igbo in-law because he’s married to an Igbo woman.
Rotimi Akeredolu has shown to us how irresponsible he is to Ondo people.
Who does that by employing Igbo lady.

Igbo people can never do such in their region when they have their own people who is qualified for such job.

Akeredolu is not qualify for a second term for such act just because he’s married to an Igbo woman.

Lastly we want a governor who will not allow any Igbo in his cabinet.
