Olubunmi Tunji Ojo

It is a generally held view that the background of every mortal usually comes with the capacity to illuminate his true personality and to a large extent, determine what he turns out to be in life. This explains why social scientists posited that a man’s personal idiosyncrasies, including his concealed psycho – social disposition are actually shaped from the experiences he garnered from his background.‘Bunmi Tunji Ojo, known in social and political circles as BTO, is Member representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. He is indeed one fellow who has benefitted from the background of not been born with silver spoons in his mouth. A first time encounter with him establishes his urban nature; an amiable personality, truly at peace with himself. A short conversation with him will confirm that his radiance is indeed deep and sufficiently complemented with brain and brawn. He walks with a gait that speaks not of arrogance but of confidence.
Respected for his analytical mind and articulate espousal of ideas, BTO is a man of substance who has proven his mettle as a federal lawmaker.
Since he began his legislative career at the House of Representatives, the Chairman House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has never looked back in his avowed desire to utilize his membership of the National Assembly to better the lots of the people who voted him into office. A Representative par excellence, he believes the people he represents have a right to better living standards. He believes they have the right to information, liason, and participation via consultation. At his constituency office, he employed a number of staff, and there he conducts regular constituency discourses. He has influenced federal jobs to a number of youths in his constituency even as he has influenced several projects to there. A case in point is the construction of Oyinmo road, Ikare Akoko North East; Arigidi-Okeagbe Akoko (LOT2), Akoko North West; Arigi-Iye Road, Akoko North West; Obanla Street, Ajowa, Akoko North West; Ififa Area Ajowa Akoko, North West and Ajowa Akunnu Road, Akoko North West Constituency 1. Apart from building roads, this great man gives scholarships for education, empowers the artisans and traders, and provide great welfare packages for the traditional institution in Akoko Land. These are but to mention a few among his monumental achievements.
For BTO, the focus is the people, who he refers to as ‘my people’. He is a member of several committees. They include House Committees on National Security and Intelligence, Local Content, Gas Resources, North East Development Commission (NEDC), Housing, FCT Area Council and Ancillary Matters, Solid Minerals and Pilgrims Affairs.

Born in Oyin Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, he attended Ansarudeen Primary School, Oyin Akoko from 1978-1990 and Hakda International school in Kaduna from 1990-1992 before completing his primary education at Universal Primary School, Akure in 1993. He then proceeded to FUTA staff secondary education where he was elected the Senior Prefect in 1998.
In 1999, he gained admission into Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering. In 2002, while in his third year at the Obafemi Awolowo University, he proceeded to the University of North London (now London Metropolitan University) where he studied Electronics and Communication Engineering and graduated in 2005. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Digital Communication and Networking from the same institution in 2006. He holds certifications in ICT including the prestigious title of being one of the first set of Certified Ethical Hackers from Royal Britannia IT Training Academy in the United Kingdom before he turned 24years.
Before his advent into politics, Olubunmi Tunji-OJo was an accomplished business and management executive with a flourishing career in ICT, becoming the CEO of a leading indigenous ICT consultant company in Nigeria, matrix IT Solutions Limited, at the age of 24. As a professional, he holds a certification in Ethical Hacking and Counter Measures. He is also a certified CompTIA Network Plus Engineer and a Britannia hardware A+ Management Certificate Holder.
In Nigeria, he consulted for the World Bank and several government agencies, including Petroleum Technology Development Fund(PTDF), Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) , National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), National Health Insurance Scheme, Abuja(NHIS), various committees of the Senate and House of Representatives of the federal Republic of Nigeria, Nigeria Gas Company, National Commission for mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education among others.
In 2019, he was elected into the House of Representatives (Nigeria) to represent Akoko North East/ Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Upon his inauguration, he mobilized 246 other lawmakers to support the speakership ambition of the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, under the forum of first-timers lawmakers of which he was the Chairman. Months later, he was appointed by the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as the Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC). He led the house of Representatives Committee to probe alleged malfeasance of over 80billion Naira in the commission, making it the first time a probe will be launched into the financial activities of the NDDC in its over twenty years of existence. In march 2021, his proposed a bill to repeal the NDDC Act which will make abuse of office impossible, a bill that passed the first reading.
To his credit is an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration, conferred on him on January 22,2021 by the Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State. He is also a recipient of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Platinum Leadership Award of Excellence as well as the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award as a Worthy Ambassador of African Youths as conferred by the All African Students Union (AASU). BTO is a member of various professional associations, including the Royal Council of Commerce and Industry, United Kingdom; E – Commerce Council; The Computing Technology Industry Association, and Information Systems Audit and Control Association. Other bodies he belongs to are the British Society of Instrumentation and Control, United Kingdom; Electronic Consultancy Society, United Kingdom; and Digital Communications Network, United Kingdom.
Olubunmi Tunji Ojo is married to Abimbola Tunji Ojo who also hails from Ondo State and they are blessed with two adorable children, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo and Adeope Tunji Ojo.
