Speaking with HERO News Correspondent, prominent individuals, including Hon. Sheba, shared their perspectives on the process and its impact on the community.

Prof. Francis Igbasan, a distinguished academic, highlighted the significance of credible elections in building sustainable governance. “Elections are not just about voting; they are about shaping the future of a nation,” he remarked. He commended the peaceful conduct and stressed the importance of voter education to combat apathy. Prof. Igbasan also noted the role of technology, stating, “With advancements like BVAS, we are gradually overcoming historical setbacks in our electoral system.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. Olumiyiwa Daramola lauded the high voter turnout, particularly among youths and women. For him, the election demonstrated the power of unity in driving change. “This election is proof that when people are united for a cause, change becomes inevitable,” he said. Dr. Daramola also emphasised the need for post-election reconciliation. “The real work begins after the election. We must prioritise unity over divisions to achieve progress,” he added.

Hon. Oladipupo Arretolu, a political leader, described the election as a triumph of democracy. “What we witnessed yesterday is a reflection of the people’s will. Democracy is alive and thriving in our state,” he asserted. Hon. Arretolu commended the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful environment and urged citizens to remain hopeful while holding leaders accountable.

On the logistical front, Comrade Ademola Odudu, the Chair of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Odigbo, discussed the union’s significant contribution to the election. “We mobilised our members to assist with transportation for voters and materials,” he explained. Comrade Odudu underscored the union’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring every eligible voter had access to polling stations.

Adding his voice, Hon. Sheba praised the electorate for their commitment to exercising their franchise. “Yesterday’s election was a testament to our people’s resolve to deepen democracy. The resilience and discipline displayed by voters were commendable,” he noted. Hon. Sheba also encouraged elected leaders to prioritise the needs of the people, saying, “This mandate is not for personal gain but for the collective good of our community.”

Finally, Alhaji Rondo, a respected elder and community leader, called for integrity in governance. “Elections are not just about winning; they are about earning the people’s trust,” he stated. While applauding the peaceful process, he urged elected leaders to prioritise the welfare of the people. “Leaders must remember that their mandate comes from the people. Development should always come first,” he concluded.

These diverse perspectives reflect the collective effort that made the election a success, demonstrating the importance of collaboration, transparency, and accountability in advancing democracy in Odigbo and beyond.
