The Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yanko Yordanov, has been conferred the chieftaincy title of “Baba Mayegun” of Ipinsa, a community in Ondo State, Nigeria. The honor was bestowed by His Royal Majesty Oba Omoniyi Olufunmilayo, the Akapinsa of Ipinsa, in a vibrant ceremony featuring traditional Yoruba attire and performances by local women and widows from HEART for Widows International.
This marks Ambassador Yordanov’s second visit to Ipinsa, following a courtesy visit in Abuja three years ago at the Bulgarian Embassy, where HEART for Widows International presented products from Bulgarian widows produced in Bulgaria. The USA-based NGO, headquartered in Akure, empowers widows globally through skills training and economic opportunities. During the event, Yordanov has presented well-appreciated donations to 50 widows from the organization, underscoring his commitment to community welfare.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oba Olufunmilayo praised Yordanov’s growing bond with Ipinsa, noting that the title “Baba Mayegun,” meaning “Father that makes the world a better place” in Yoruba, reflects his esteemed status. Yordanov expressed gratitude for the warm reception, reaffirming Bulgaria’s dedication to fostering progressive partnerships in Nigeria.
HEART for Widows International, led by its founders, Prince Adetayo Phileo Adesida and Britt Schulze-Adesida, also shines through their ownership of the Akure Airport Hotel. The hotel employs many widows from the organization, blending hospitality with social impact. The founders, who first met Yordanov at the Bulgarian Embassy three years ago, continue to champion widows’ welfare, making the event a celebration of diplomacy, culture, and humanitarianism.
