Eyitayo Jegede Emerges Ondo PDP Governorship Candidate

Former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, has been elected the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the October 10 governorship election.

Jegede who scored 888 votes defeated the deputy governor Hon Agboola Ajayi who scored 657 votes.

The former Vice Chairman of the party in the south west Dr Eddy Olafeso came third with 175 votes.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Bode Ayorinde scored 95 votes while Banji Okunomo scored 90 votes.

A former commissioner, Sola Ebiseni polled 29 votes while Godday Erewa scored 14 votes.

The sorting of the ballot papers which started by 930pm ended 11: 17pm. Two thousand one hundred and eleven delegates decided the fate of the eight aspirants.

Six of the aspirants came from the same senatorial district while Jegede and Ayoride are from the central and Northern senatorial district.

Chairman of the election committee, governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who announced the the result said that Jegede won the keenly contested election.

Ugwuanyi said that 64 ballot papers were voided.

Eyitayo Jegede was a two-time chairman of the Adamawa state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Jegede was member of the 5-man implementation Committee that was saddled with the responsibility of establishing the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Adamawa State.

He is a member of the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria.

Jegede is a former Chancellor of the Anglican Communion of Jalingo, Taraba State, he was once the Chancellor of Anglican Dioceses of Yola.

Under the outgone Ondo State Government, he was made a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Eyitayo Jegede was voted as the PDP governorship candidate but Justice Okon Abang judgement issued on October 14, 2016 recognised Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP for the governorship of Ondo State.

He was later declared winner in , November, 23, 2016, the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal ordered the reinstatement of Jegede as PDP’s flag bearer.

But he contested again now four years after and got the party ticket in a well contested primary election
