Former World Boxing Federation Cruiserweight Champion, Bashiru Lawrence Ali, popularly known as Bash Ali, took to social media on Tuesday to reflect on his commitment to fighting corruption as he celebrated his 68th birthday. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ali recounted the sacrifices he endured over 17 years in his relentless pursuit to host his Guinness World Record Boxing Championship Fight in Nigeria, emphasizing his unwavering refusal to succumb to corrupt practices.

Ali revealed that his principled stand against corruption had come at a great cost, resulting in a significant decline in his financial fortunes. He went from being a millionaire in dollars to having virtually nothing in Naira. Despite this, he remained resolute in his mission to combat corruption in sports and in Nigeria as a whole.

Throughout those 17 years, Ali faced numerous challenges and hardships. He was detained eight times at various police stations in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. In one instance, he was even incarcerated at Kuje Prison for a grueling 43 days. These ordeals were endured not because he was a criminal, but simply because he stood up against corruption.

Despite tempting offers to hold his fight outside of Nigeria, Ali refused to give up on his dream of fighting on his home soil. He remained steadfast in his determination to showcase his talent and bring international recognition to Nigerian boxing.

Now, after years of struggle, Ali’s dream is finally becoming a reality. In his birthday post, he expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his journey. He proclaimed that, as an extraordinary individual, he will continue to fight until the age of 70, retire young and healthy, amass considerable wealth, and ultimately aspire to become the President of Nigeria. This ambitious goal underscores his unwavering dedication to his country and his desire to bring about positive change.

As Bash Ali celebrates his 68th birthday, his story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the courage and resilience required to stand against corruption and fight for what one believes in.
