Over 600 Boreholes Have Been Rehabilitated under Akeredolu’s Water Scheme
It was Audrey Hepburn who said that ” water is life, and clean water means health ”
Dr Olusegun Agagu of blessed memory, in the twilight of his administration awarded N14 billion water reticulation project for the reticulation of water from the Federal Government owned Owena Multipurpose Dam to six Local Government Areas of Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore, Idanre, Ondo East and Ondo West. Unfortunately, his predecessor didn’t continue with the project.
Not that alone, existing water supply facilities were not well maintained. On the assumption of office – 24th February, 2017, the report of water supply facilities in Ondo State has become worrisome – ninety percent of water supply facilities were moribund. Getting clean and fit to drink water becomes real challenge.
The new helmsman, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN in his unbridled desire to deliver on his electoral promises has to resuscitate the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASSA – to come to the rescue of the people.
With the appointment of a workaholic and resourceful woman, Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju as the chair of the agency, things begin to take new shapes. Members of staff of the agency begin to “Act Anew “. The engineers become more creative and innovative. They’re now tooling up for repairs.
Governor Akeredolu’s directive to carry out need assessment of existing water facilities across the state with a view to providing on-the-spot remedial and technical solutions on the water facilities has been yielding tremendous result.
Now, the system has been rejigged. A new Water- for- All Scheme christened ” KAMOMI AKETI WATER SCHEME” emplaced. More than seven Local Government Areas have been captured. Over 600 dysfunctional water facilities have been rehabilitated. The goal of the present Government is to make clean and fit to drink water available to citizens and denizens of the State irrespective of their place of abode.
