The Executive Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father, Hyacinth Iormen Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of Corps Members deployed to the state for their National Service.
The Governor, who was Represented by Rt Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, Chairman NYSC State Governing Board and Commissioner of Youth, Sports Development and Creativity, made the remarks at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream I Corps Members, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the State.
He charged the Corps Members to demonstrate loyalty and dedication in their service to the country.
He reminded the Corps Members on the importance of NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and encouraged them to take full advantage of the training to equip themselves for future self-reliance.
Amid concerns over security in the region, the Governor assured the young Nigerians of the comprehensive safety measures put in place by the Government to ensure their security and wellbeing. “We are working closely with security agencies to ensure your protection throughout your service year,” he stated.
Earlier, the NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor, and Other Stakeholders in the State for according the Scheme of enabling environment to operate in line with the vision of its founding fathers.
She further commended the State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia for his unwavering support and commitment to the NYSC scheme, particularly in creating a welcoming environment and ensuring the smooth running of the orientation course. While also acknowledging the efforts of the State Chief Judge in supporting the legal and administrative framework that upholds the values of the programme.
Reminding them on the importance of orientation Course programme, Mrs. Garba reiterated that its cardinal purpose is to equip them with the valuable life and professional skills. “The orientation is designed to guide you through key components of the NYSC programme, including skill acquisition, leadership training, and capacity building,” she stated.
She noted that the government has gone above and beyond to provide a comfortable and secure environment, reflecting a spirit of hospitality and inclusion for all participants.
The State Coordinator, thanked all the guests for their presence and support. She prayed for divine blessings upon everyone and wished them safe journeys back to their various destinations.
The Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice M. A. Ikpambese, represented by Justice Peter Ukande, administered Oath of Allegiance to the Corps Members.
He appreciated the role of the NYSC in the state and further charged Corps Members to consider Benue as their second home. “There will be reasons to stay here once you are done with your service. Benue is a hospitable place. By the time you finish, you will see reasons to appreciate the state,” he said.
