Ogunyomi Segun of Stogmer P Plus Nig Limited, based in Oba Afunbiowo Estate, Akure, has raised serious fraud allegations against a well-known lawyer (name withheld) over a disputed auction truck transaction. The complaint, which has now reached the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), details accusations of deceit and financial manipulation in a deal involving the purchase of two trucks from an auction house in Oroyx.

According to Mr. Ogunyomi, the lawyer had facilitated the transaction, assuring him that the two trucks were in excellent working condition. Acting on this assurance, Ogunyomi proceeded with the purchase, paying a sum of ₦30 million for both trucks. However, upon delivery, Ogunyomi was shocked to discover that the trucks were far from the quality promised. They were essentially scrap vehicles, rendering them unusable for the intended business purposes and leaving him saddled with a loss.

As the dust settled, it was revealed that the lawyer had purchased these very same trucks for a mere ₦12 million from the auction house, a fact that had been conveniently concealed during negotiations. The lawyer, it is alleged, exploited the trust placed in him by Ogunyomi to inflate the price, pocketing the ₦18 million difference as profit. This revelation not only added insult to injury but raised significant concerns about the lawyer’s ethics and honesty in handling the deal.

The gravity of this situation has compelled Ogunyomi to seek redress through the Nigerian Bar Association, urging the body to launch a thorough investigation into the lawyer’s conduct. According to the complaint, Ogunyomi felt not only financially cheated but also betrayed, given the professional trust he had placed in the lawyer. The entire episode has called into question the integrity of legal professionals involved in business dealings, with Ogunyomi emphasizing the need for accountability in the legal profession.

With the NBA now formally notified, all eyes are on how the association will handle the case. Ogunyomi has expressed hope that justice will be served, and that the lawyer’s actions will be scrutinized to determine whether he violated ethical standards. As this case unfolds, it has become a critical test of how the legal community addresses accusations of misconduct and whether those entrusted with protecting the law can be held accountable when they themselves are accused of wrongdoing.
